Medical imaging technology company Nanox (NASDAQ: NNOX) announced today the $200 million acquisition of fellow Israeli healthcare AI pioneer Zebra Medical Vision. Nanox also announced the $30 million acquisition of USARAD and its related company, Medical Diagnostics Web (MDW) which operates a global network of over 300 radiologists. Both acquisitions are subject to satisfaction of certain conditions and regulatory approvals.

These acquisitions will boost Nanox efforts to address three key global healthcare challenges: The shortage of medical imaging devices, the dearth of radiologists, and the analysis of medical data across countries. By creating a globally connected, end-to-end radiology solution, Nanox will able to advance its vision of population health management.

“The Nanox.ARC, together with the acquisitions of Zebra Medical Vision and USARAD, if consummated, would allow us to support our systems with a large network of radiologists empowered with highly advanced AI algorithms. This end-to-end, globally connected medical imaging solution will allow for the rapid interpretation of medical images into actionable medical interventions and would also represent a significant step toward our vision of true population preventive health care,” Ran Poliakine, Chairman and CEO of Nanox said in a statement.

Founded in 2014, Zebra Medical has raised $57.4 million to date, according to Crunchbase, from Khosla Ventures, Marc Benioff, Intermountain Investment Fund, OurCrowd Qure, Aurum, aMoon, Nvidia, J&J and Dolby Ventures. The company hosts the largest imaging data repository in the medical imaging sector, boasting over two million images used to enhance its AI programs and their diagnostics accuracy.

Zebra Medical has 7 FDA-cleared and 10 CE-marked AI solutions for medical imaging, most recently a 3D modeling solution for x-ray images used for orthopedic surgery pre-operative planning. It has partnered with numerous healthcare facilities, academic institutions, healthtech companies, and OEMs around the world, including InterMountain Healthcare, Johnson & Johnson, Nuance, Apollo Hospitals, NHS England and Scotland, Canon Medical Systems, Erasmus MC, Einstein Healthcare, NVIDIA, and the University of Oxford.

Recently, Zebra Medical pivoted from focusing on acute condition diagnosis and triage to population health management by harnessing its imaging data repository to enable healthcare systems to better evaluate large volumes of patients for chronic condition vulnerabilities.

“A trusted, innovative, partner like Nanox can boost our capabilities while sharing our vision for AI which we believe can be best served through the combination of a groundbreaking imaging equipment technology, AI solutions, delivered over state of the art cloud infrastructure. Screening populations to detect and treat chronic disease early on, while establishing new care pathways, has significantly improved treatment outcomes. We are thrilled to be taking the helm of the population health transformation in healthcare,” Zohar Elhanani, CEO of Zebra Medical Vision said in a statement.
